Experience the Sahara beyond the tourist routes on a 4-day 4×4 off-road tour from Merzouga to Erg Chegaga and Lake Iriki. This is a true desert crossing on remote pistes—fossil plains, hammada plateaus, acacia valleys, and wide open horizons—built for travelers who want real off-road driving, big dunes, and quieter camps, not just highway stops.
Over four days, your local driver-guide adapts the route to the season and conditions, choosing the best tracks for safety and scenery. You’ll start with the iconic dunes of Erg Chebbi (Merzouga), then travel deeper into the Sahara toward the wild dunes of Erg Chegaga, finishing with the unforgettable crossing of Lake Iriki—a vast dried lakebed near Foum Zguid.
Nights are spent in desert camps or simple local lodging (your choice), with time for sunset viewpoints, stargazing, and relaxed meals.
Available as: Private 4×4 tour (our vehicle) • Guided convoy (clients’ own 4×4) • Motorbike guiding (optional support 4×4)
Real off-road adventure (not just road driving): You spend most of the trip on desert pistes—sand, hammada (stony desert), and wide open plateaus—far from the main tourist routes.
Iconic Sahara scenery: Start near the dunes of Erg Chebbi and cross changing landscapes all the way to the Draa region.
Remote desert villages & oases: Travel through authentic places like Ouzina and Ramlia where you can stop for tea, photos, and local moments.
A true “expedition” day via Sidi Ali Tafraout: The stretch toward Sidi Ali Tafraout feels wild and empty—perfect for travelers who want silence, space, and adventure.
Flexible tour styles: Choose a private tour in our 4×4, a guided convoy (clients drive their own 4×4), or motorbike guiding (with optional support 4×4 for luggage, water, and fuel).
Your choice of nights: Sleep in a desert camp, wild camp under the stars, or a local guesthouse depending on comfort level and season.
Strong finish in the oasis region: End the journey in Zagora with palm groves and pre-Sahara scenery—an unforgettable contrast to the dunes.
This is a real 4-day Sahara off-road expedition from Merzouga to Erg Chegaga and Lake Iriki, combining dunes, rocky pistes, and wide desert plateaus. Expect a mix of sand driving, remote tracks across hammada and fossil plains, and scenic stops in oasis areas along the way. You’ll start at the dunes of Erg Chebbi (Merzouga), travel deeper into the Sahara toward the wild dunes of Chegaga, and experience the unforgettable Lake Iriki crossing—a vast dried lakebed with huge open horizons.
Each day includes photo stops, short breaks, and time to enjoy sunset at camp. The route is flexible and may change depending on weather, wind, sand conditions, and the group’s experience level—your driver-guide always chooses the safest and most enjoyable tracks.
Start near the dunes of Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) and head south toward Taouz, where the paved road fades and the Sahara pistes begin. The day is a perfect introduction to Morocco’s off-road terrain: sandy tracks, rocky hammada, fossil plains, and wide open desert.
Along the way you’ll stop for photos, short breaks, and scenic viewpoints. By late afternoon you arrive near Ouzina / Erg Ouzina, a quieter dune area with beautiful sunset light and fewer crowds.
Overnight: Desert lodge/guesthouse near Ouzina (or camp-style option based on your package).
After breakfast, continue off-road through remote desert landscapes toward Ramlia, following classic Sahara pistes across gravel plains and acacia valleys. Ramlia is a small desert settlement—ideal for a tea stop and a calm break.
From here, the route continues deeper into the pre-Sahara, staying on remote tracks as much as possible. Your guide adapts the day depending on conditions and your pace, aiming to position the group well for the Chegaga dunes day.
Overnight: Simple local guesthouse/lodge in a desert village area (route-dependent).
Today is the highlight for dune lovers. You travel toward Erg Chegaga, one of Morocco’s largest and most remote dune systems. The drive includes sandy pistes and open desert sections, then the dunes rise on the horizon.
Once in Chegaga, you have time to explore, climb dunes, enjoy panoramic viewpoints, and take golden-hour photos. The atmosphere here feels wild and remote compared to Merzouga.
Overnight: Desert camp in Erg Chegaga (standard or comfort, depending on your package) with dinner and stargazing.
Wake up for sunrise in the dunes, then begin the legendary crossing of Lake Iriki—a vast dried lakebed with huge open horizons and a true expedition feel. This section is one of the most memorable parts of the tour, with remote tracks and dramatic, empty landscapes.
After photo stops and breaks, you reach Foum Zguid, where the tour ends. (Optional continuation to Taznakht / Ouarzazate / Marrakech can be arranged on request.)
End: Foum Zguid (or optional drop-off extension).
Routes can change slightly due to wind, sand, and weather—your guide always chooses the safest and best track on the day. Distances and driving times are approximate and depend on piste conditions and the selected off-road route.
